Safety and Wellbeing Policy

This Safety and Wellbeing Policy outlines our commitment to providing a safe environment for all users of our technology platform. We recognise our responsibility to promote safety, particularly for vulnerable users including young people and older adults, and to provide clear reporting mechanisms for concerns.

Last updated: 1 November 2025

1. Our Commitment to Safety

We are committed to:

  • Maintaining a safe digital environment for all users
  • Protecting vulnerable individuals, including young people and older adults
  • Continuously improving the accessibility and usability of our platform, ensuring it remains easy to use for people of all ages and technical abilities while maintaining robust security
  • Providing clear procedures for reporting safety concerns
  • Responding promptly and appropriately to all safety-related incidents
  • Complying with relevant New Zealand legislation and best practices

2. Our Role as a Platform Provider

PurposeTech provides technology software to charities, non-profits, and other organisations ("our customers") to help them manage their volunteer programmes. It is important to understand the distinction between our role and that of the organisations using our platform:

  • Our customers are responsible for recruiting, training, and managing their own volunteers, including implementing their own safety policies, codes of conduct, and incident response procedures.
  • PurposeTech provides the technology platform and is committed to ensuring that platform is safe, secure, and supports best practice in volunteer management.

While our customers maintain primary responsibility for volunteer safety within their programmes, we are available to provide support and assistance where needed, and will work collaboratively with organisations to address any safety concerns that arise.

3. Volunteer Engagement

We acknowledge that volunteers play a vital role in the organisations that use our platform. Our customers are responsible for ensuring their volunteers:

  • Receive appropriate training on safety protocols
  • Are subject to relevant background checks where required by law
  • Adhere to the organisation's Code of Conduct
  • Have access to support and guidance from the organisation's team

We support our customers in these efforts by providing tools within our platform to facilitate volunteer communication, documentation, and coordination.

4. Reporting Safety Concerns

4.1 Immediate Safety Concerns

If there is any issue or concern around the immediate safety of a young person or any volunteer, please contact the appropriate emergency authorities immediately:

  • Emergency Services:111
  • Police (non-emergency):105
  • Oranga Tamariki (Ministry for Children):0508 326 459

4.2 Reporting to the Organisation

For non-emergency safety concerns, volunteers should first contact the organisation they are volunteering with directly. Each organisation using our platform maintains their own safety and incident reporting procedures.

The organisation coordinator or event manager is your primary point of contact for any concerns that arise during volunteering activities.

4.3 Contacting PurposeTech

If you are unable to reach the organisation, or if your concern relates specifically to the PurposeTech platform, or if you feel your concern has not been adequately addressed by the organisation, you can contact us directly:

  • Email our team at support@purposetech.io
  • Provide all relevant details including date, time, location, and persons involved

We will work with the relevant organisation to ensure all concerns are appropriately addressed.
